Is this the High-Pressure (HPFP) or Low-Pressure (LPFP) pump?
This is strictly the Low-Pressure Fuel Pump (LPFP). It is an electric pump that sits inside the gas tank to send fuel forward. It is not the mechanical High-Pressure Fuel Pump (HPFP) that bolts directly to the engine cylinder head.
Where is this fuel pump located?
This complete assembly is located inside the fuel tank. To access it, you must remove the lower rear passenger-side seat cushion and unscrew the metal access plate bolted to the floor pan.
Does this include the fuel level sending unit?
Yes! This is a complete drop-in module. It includes the electric pump motor, the plastic surge housing, the internal fuel strainer/filter, and the float arm sending unit that tells your dashboard gauge how much gas is in the tank.
Do I need a special tool to install this?
While resourceful DIYers sometimes use a hammer and a brass punch, it is highly recommended to use a proper Audi/VW Fuel Tank Lock Ring Spanner Wrench. The large plastic lock ring holding this pump into the tank is torqued down tightly, and cracking it during removal or installation will cause a massive EVAP leak.
