Why did my original air compressor fail?
Air compressors very rarely fail on their own; they usually die from overwork! If your compressor burned out, it is highly likely you have a leak somewhere else in the system—most commonly a torn air spring bladder or a leaking valve block. You must locate and fix the underlying leak, or your brand-new compressor will overwork itself and suffer the exact same fate!
Is there anything else I absolutely must replace with this?
YES! The AIRMATIC Relay. When your old compressor overheated and died, it drew a massive electrical current that often welds the contacts inside the relay completely shut. If you plug this new compressor into a stuck relay, it will turn on and never turn off, burning out your new part in a matter of hours. Always install a brand-new relay when replacing the pump!
Does this include the mounting bracket and vibration isolators?
This is the bare compressor assembly. You will need to transfer your original metal mounting bracket and the three rubber vibration-isolation mounts from your old unit onto this new one.
What is the difference between the base part number and the "80" suffix?
Nothing! Mercedes-Benz uses the suffix "80" (e.g., A166320010480) to denote a remanufactured or exchange part at the dealership level. The base number A1663200104 is the exact same physical compressor and they are 100% interchangeable.
