Frequently Asked Questions

Are the left and right rear air springs different?
No. For the W251 chassis, this specific rear air spring (A2513200425) is completely non-directional and applies equally to both the rear left and rear right positions. A complete rear axle service requires a set of two identical components.
Does this fit standard steel-spring R-Class models?
While some base models in specific global markets came with standard rear coil springs, the vast majority of W251 R-Class vehicles were equipped with standard rear air leveling (even if they did not have full 4-corner Airmatic). These air springs are strictly for the vehicles equipped with rear air suspension. Vehicles with rear steel coils cannot utilize these air bellows.
Are these complete shock absorbers?
No. The rear suspension on the R-Class features a "divorced" setup, separating the hydraulic shock absorber from the pneumatic air spring. This set strictly replaces the pneumatic air bellows, not the shock absorbers.
Why should I replace both at the same time?
Rubber air bladders wear at the exact same rate. If the left spring has developed a micro-tear or leak, the right spring has endured the exact same mileage, heavy passenger loads, and road conditions. Replacing them as a matched set is standard operating procedure to ensure the rear of the vehicle sits perfectly level, and to prevent a sudden failure of the older spring from leaving you stranded.
