Are the left and right mounts interchangeable?
No. The B8 Audi chassis utilizes highly asymmetrical engine mounts. The heavy-duty aluminum mounting arms, the internal hydraulic valving, and the heat shielding are specifically shaped for either the driver's side (Left - 8R0199381C) or the passenger's side (Right - 8R0199381AL) of the engine cradle. They are physically impossible to swap side-to-side. This kit includes one of each to ensure a proper installation.
Do I need to program these mounts to the car's computer?
No programming or coding is required. However, if your old mounts completely blew out, they likely severed their internal wiring, which stores a "soft" fault code in your vehicle's ECU (usually reading Engine Mount Solenoid Valve - Open Circuit). Installing these new mounts and plugging them into the factory wiring harness will physically resolve the issue, though you may need a standard OBD2 scanner to clear the old code from the computer's memory.
Will this fit my Front-Wheel Drive (FWD) or Manual Transmission Audi?
Generally, no. This specific matched set is engineered specifically with the internal spring rates to support the heavier Quattro (AWD) and Automatic drivetrain. FWD and Manual models are significantly lighter and utilize different engine mounts (often ending in G or F) to properly tune out vibrations.
Should I replace the transmission mount at the same time?
It is highly recommended. The engine and transmission sit together as a single interconnected powertrain assembly. If your front hydraulic mounts have completely collapsed, the rear transmission mount has been forced to bear abnormal weight and stress, likely tearing its internal rubber bushing.
