What are the symptoms of a failing thrust arm (control arm)?
The most obvious sign is a vibration in the steering wheel specifically when braking from 80–110 km/h. You may also notice a "clunk" sound when hitting speed bumps or a "loose" feeling in the steering during cornering.
Is the Left arm different from the Right arm?
Yes. On the X5 and X6, the control arms are side-specific due to the curve of the arm and the orientation of the ball joint. 31126771893 is for the Left (Driver) side, and 31126771894 is for the Right (Passenger) side.
Do I need an alignment after replacing this part?
Yes. Any time you replace a primary control arm, the front-end geometry is slightly altered. A professional 4-wheel alignment is highly recommended to prevent premature tire wear.
Why should I buy the whole arm instead of just the bushing?
While you can press out the old bushing, the ball joint at the other end of the arm often has similar wear. Replacing the entire arm (31126771893) ensures both components are new, saving you the labor of doing the job twice.
