Does this assembly include both the water pump and the thermostat?
Yes. Part number A2642001501 is a comprehensive thermal management module that includes the coolant pump, the electronically controlled thermostat, and the integrated housing.
Do I need to flush my coolant when installing this?
Yes. Removing the old pump will result in a significant loss of engine coolant. You must refill the system using the correct, factory-approved Mercedes-Benz coolant (typically the newer pink/purple specification for M264 engines) and properly bleed the system of air pockets.
Is this for the V6 or V8 engines?
No. This specific coolant pump is engineered exclusively for the M264 2.0L 4-cylinder turbocharged engine.
Does the system need to be bled with a computer?
Highly Recommended. Modern Mercedes-Benz cooling systems are complex and trap air easily. Using a vacuum bleeder tool and a diagnostic scanner to run the automated "Cooling System Bleed Routine" ensures all air is purged from the heater core and turbocharger lines, preventing localized overheating.
