What are the common symptoms of a failing BMW electric water pump?
Common signs include a sudden "Engine Overheating" warning on the iDrive screen, the electric radiator fan running at high speed (jet engine sound), a "Limp Mode" power reduction, or shadow codes like 2E81 or 2E82 stored in the DME.
Do I need to replace the thermostat at the same time?
Yes. In the BMW community, it is standard practice to replace the Thermostat (11537549476) alongside the water pump. Since both parts have similar lifespans and require removing the same undertray for access, replacing them together saves significantly on labor costs.
Does this pump require a special bleeding procedure?
Yes. After installation, you must run the BMW automated bleeding procedure (Engine OFF, Heat to MAX, Fan to LOW, hold Accelerator for 10 seconds) to remove air bubbles from the system. Failure to do this can cause the new pump to run dry and fail.
Why is the part number different from my old one?
BMW has updated this part multiple times. Older numbers like 11517563659 or 11517588885 have all been superseded by the current, more reliable 11517632426.
