Why OEM
The M5/M8 front braking system employs 395mm cross-drilled floating composite rotors — a two-piece aluminium hat and cast iron ring construction that reduces unsprung mass by approximately 30% versus conventional solid-cast discs, directly improving steering feel, chassis response, and sustained braking performance. SHW is the BMW OEM supplier for this assembly; the units supplied here are produced to the identical specification as the factory-installed discs. Aftermarket alternatives frequently present dimensional deviations in the floating contact points between hat and ring, introducing thermal distortion and vibration under sustained high-temperature braking — particularly relevant under GCC high-ambient operating conditions where brake temperatures are elevated even in normal driving. This factory-specification set ensures matched floating motion, hat parallelism, and thermal expansion characteristics at both front corners simultaneously.
Installation Note
Use new rotor retention bolts on both sides — cannot be reused. Torque to BMW specification. Bed new rotors per BMW M procedure before full-load braking. Inspect caliper slides, pad wear, and brake fluid condition before installation. Do not apply full braking force until bedding cycle is complete.
