Are the left and right front air struts different?
Yes. Due to the specific 4MATIC axle routing, electronic sensor brackets, and sway bar link mounting points, front air struts on the W213 are strictly side-specific. A2133203601 is engineered exclusively for the Front Right, while a complementary part number (such as A2133203401) is required for the Front Left.
Will this fit a standard Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) E-Class?
No. The 4MATIC (All-Wheel Drive) models use a specialized "bottom fork" mount to clear the front CV axles. Rear-wheel-drive models utilize a completely different lower mounting base. These struts cannot be interchanged between drivetrain configurations.
Do I need to buy the shock absorber separately?
No. This is a complete, fully integrated assembly. It includes the internal adaptive hydraulic shock absorber, the pneumatic air spring bladder, the upper mounting plate, and the electronic ADS dampening solenoid.
Why should I replace both at the same time?
Rubber air bladders and internal shock valves wear at the exact same rate. If the right strut has developed a micro-tear or leak, the left strut has endured the exact same mileage, heat cycles, and road conditions. Replacing them as a matched pair is the industry standard to ensure the front of the vehicle sits perfectly level, steers evenly, and avoids repeating expensive labor costs a few months later.
