BMW shocks and springs

Genuine OEM BMW Shocks & Springs

Your BMW's suspension is responsible for stability, control and safety as much as comfort. Shocks and springs absorb road impact, keep the tyres in contact with the surface, and control body roll. Wear is gradual, which is why most owners never notice until the parts are replaced — and it is also a safety item, since a worn damper measurably lengthens stopping distance.

How to Tell They Are Worn

  • The car floats over crests and takes an extra movement to settle
  • The nose dives more than it used to under braking
  • Cupped or scalloped tyre wear
  • A knock over expansion joints — often the top mount rather than the damper itself
  • Visible fluid on the damper body, which is conclusive but late

What to Know Before Ordering

  • Always replace in axle pairs. A new damper alongside a worn one gives inconsistent damping side to side, and on adaptive systems it gives the control module contradictory inputs — producing a ride complaint no alignment will fix.
  • Adaptive and passive are not interchangeable. Adaptive Drive and electronically controlled dampers are wired to each corner; fitting a passive unit where an adaptive one belongs sets a fault and disables the system even where it bolts up.
  • Replace top mounts and bump stops with the damper. They perish alongside it and are inexpensive while the strut is already out — a perished mount is a common cause of a knock that survives new dampers.
  • Air suspension on X5, X7 and 7 Series is a linked system: a leaking strut makes the compressor run continuously until it burns out. Catch the strut early and you often save the compressor.
  • Calendar age matters. Damper seals and bushings degrade with heat and time, so a low-mileage car in Gulf conditions still needs inspection.

Coverage

Genuine and OEM shocks, struts and springs across the range — 1 Series, 3 Series, 5 Series, 7 Series, X5, X7, Z4 and M models — matched to chassis code and production date rather than model year alone.
