The Aston Martin DB9 defined the modern era of British grand touring — built on the extruded aluminium VH architecture with a naturally aspirated 5.9-litre V12. As these cars mature, independent parts supply matters increasingly for preservation.
Transmission. The DB9 used the ZF 6HP Touchtronic, not a dual-clutch. Aston Martin does not build a DCT car, and ordering DCT fluid or clutch packs for a DB9 is a common and costly error. The torque tube connecting engine to rear transaxle is a genuine failure point — a driveline vibration or clunk is often the torque tube rather than the gearbox.
Suspension. Forged aluminium double wishbones front and rear, where the bushings are the wear item but are not serviced separately on most cars — the correct repair is arm replacement. A worn bush left too long turns a manageable job into an expensive one. Replace dampers in axle pairs.
Cooling. The front radiator stack sits low and unprotected behind a wide intake, so stone damage and debris blockage are routine, and the V12 works its cooling package hard even at moderate ambient temperatures. In GCC conditions radiators, hoses, the expansion tank and auxiliary pumps age well ahead of the European design assumption.
Low-mileage standing is the defining condition. A DB9 covering 3,000 km a year still needs its annual oil and filter service — oil degrades by oxidation and moisture contamination, and short journeys from cold are the harshest possible duty cycle for a V12. Bushings, dampers and hoses age on a calendar basis. Battery condition is the first thing to check on any electrical complaint: a degraded battery produces a multi-module fault cascade that clears once voltage is restored. Use a conditioner.
