OEM Mercedes-Benz GL-Class Parts

The GL-Class was Mercedes' full-size three-row SUV from 2006 until the 2016 rename to GLS. Our catalogue covers the X164 (2006–2012) and X166 (2012–2016), including the GL 63 AMG.

Every part is matched to chassis code, engine code and production date. The X166 designation continued into the GLS after the 2016 facelift, so late GL-Class and early GLS share a great deal — see GLS parts → if your vehicle is 2016 or later. Send us your VIN and we will confirm before you order.

Mercedes-Benz GL-Class Maintenance Parts

GL-Class servicing is diesel-dominated in most markets, and the OM642 sets the filter and cooling parts list. Weight and towing duty pull brake intervals in ahead of the book figure.

Filters and service consumables. Filters follow the engine family rather than the model year — OM642, M273, M276 and M278 all take different elements. Diesel cars add fuel filter and DPF considerations, and short urban journeys in the Gulf are the duty cycle most likely to cause regeneration problems. Order the complete service kit: the oil filter housing O-ring and sump plug crush washer are single-use, and a three-row vehicle often carries two cabin filters. Air filters → · Oil filters → · Service kits →

Brakes. Mass makes brakes a genuine consumable. Standard and GL 63 AMG cars take different disc diameters and pad compounds. The wear sensor is a separate part number front and rear and is single-use — replace it with the pads. Mercedes brake pads & rotors → · Brake rotors →

Cooling and the OM642. The OM642 diesel's oil cooler seal failure is the best-known issue on this platform — it presents as oil in the coolant valley and requires intake removal to reach, which is why replacing the surrounding seals and hoses at the same time is the sensible approach rather than returning for each. M276 and M278 petrol engines seep from the thermostat housing in the vee long before any temperature warning appears. A heavy three-row SUV in Gulf traffic works its cooling pack hard, and radiator stacks block with dust between the fins. Coolant parts → · Radiators →

About Mercedes-Benz GL-Class Parts

Parts for the GL-Class divide by generation before anything else. Identifying the chassis code — X164 and X166 — is the first step in ordering correctly, and facelift revisions within a generation matter as much as the generation change itself.

X164 (2006–2012) — The original, sharing substantial engineering with the contemporary W164 M-Class. M273 petrol and OM642 diesel engines, with AIRMATIC standard. Now a mature platform with a committed independent service base. OM642 oil cooler seals, air suspension struts and compressor, and front control arm bushings dominate the workload. See also M-Class parts →

X166 (2012–2016) — A new platform with M276 and M278 petrol engines, the OM642 diesel and the GL 63 AMG. This is the generation that became the GLS in 2016 via facelift. Lighting and front-end components are where pre- and post-rename part numbers most often diverge; much of the mechanical hardware carries across.

Air suspension — the dominant cost. AIRMATIC is standard across the GL-Class, and on a vehicle of this mass it works harder than on any saloon. Struts, compressor, valve block, air lines and height sensors form one connected system. The failure chain is consistent: a strut develops a leak, the compressor runs continuously to compensate, and the compressor burns out second. If the vehicle settles overnight or the compressor runs longer than it used to, act immediately — catching the strut early often saves the compressor. Replace struts in axle pairs. In GCC heat the compressor works considerably harder than the European design case assumed. Air suspension compressors → · Shocks & springs → · Axle & steering →

Suspension and steering. Control arm bushings carry well over two and a half tonnes and wear on a schedule set by mass rather than mileage — a knock over expansion joints, then vague on-centre steering, then inner-edge tyre wear misdiagnosed as alignment. Mercedes supplies most arms complete with bushing and ball joint pressed in. A four-wheel alignment is required afterwards. Control arms → · Wheel hubs & bearings →

Transmission and driveline. The 7G-Tronic (722.9) is the dominant gearbox here, and its conductor plate and 13-pin connector are a known failure point producing limp mode and selector faults routinely misread as mechanical failure. Fluid degrades ahead of its long-life billing in a heavy vehicle in Gulf heat. The 4MATIC transfer case carries its own fluid and its own service requirement, and is regularly overlooked — particularly on vehicles used for towing. Electrical and sensors. Check battery and charging health before condemning any module — low voltage produces a multi-module fault cascade, air suspension errors included, that clears once voltage is restored. Beyond that, most module failures are sensor, earth or connector faults, and connector corrosion is a real consideration on X164 cars. Electrical parts → · Oxygen sensors →

FAQ

Is the GL-Class the same as the GLS? The X166 GL became the GLS in 2016 via a facelift rather than a new platform, so late GL and early GLS share extensively. Identify your vehicle by production date rather than name.

I have oil in the coolant on my diesel. On the OM642, typically the oil cooler seals rather than a head gasket. Intake removal is required to reach it, so do the surrounding seals and hoses at the same time.

My GL sits low overnight. An air strut leaking down, in almost every case. The compressor failure that often follows is a consequence. Replace the strut early, in axle pairs.

Are X164 and X166 parts interchangeable? Largely not. The X166 was a new platform in 2012 with different engines and running gear.

How quickly will my order ship? In-stock orders dispatch from our UAE or USA warehouse with full tracking.

Frequently Asked Questions

    • Genuine Parts: These are the exact components installed at the factory, arriving in the original vehicle manufacturer’s branded packaging (e.g., Porsche or BMW).
    • OEM Parts: These are produced by the same manufacturers that supply the car brands (e.g., Bosch, Brembo, Lemförder) but are sold in the supplier’s own packaging, often at a more competitive price.
    • Aftermarket Parts: These are third-party components designed to meet or exceed original specifications.
