Genuine OEM BMW Upper & Lower Control Arms

Control arms are the connection between your BMW's chassis and its wheels, maintaining suspension geometry while absorbing road inputs. On the E9x, F2x, F3x, F1x and X-series platforms, the front thrust arm and lower control arm bushings are the highest-wear items on the car — and the first thing to suspect when the steering loses precision.

The Wear Sequence

It follows a consistent order, and recognising it early saves the tyres:

  • Steering wheel shimmy under braking, particularly from higher speeds
  • A knock or clunk over expansion joints and speed bumps
  • Vague or wandering steering on centre
  • Uneven, inner-edge tyre wear — by this stage the bushing has been worn for months
  • Visible cracking in the rubber bushing, or play felt at the ball joint

What to Know Before Ordering

  • Replace the arm, not the bushing. BMW supplies most arms complete with the bushing and ball joint pressed in, and that is the intended repair. Pressing a new bushing into a worn arm reintroduces the fault within months and wastes the labour.
  • Replace in pairs. Thrust arms and control arms work as a set across the axle — a new arm alongside a worn one takes disproportionate load and fails early.
  • A four-wheel alignment is mandatory afterwards. Skipping it converts a correct repair into premature tyre wear.
  • Front-drive and rear-drive platforms differ. The F40 1 Series and F70 use a transverse front-wheel-drive layout with entirely different front geometry from the rear-drive F20 — never order by model name alone.
  • Seized through-bolts are the real job risk. Control arm bolts corrode into their bushing sleeves and turn a straightforward job into a difficult one. Plan for it.
  • Calendar age matters. Rubber bushings degrade with heat and time as well as mileage, so low-mileage cars in Gulf conditions still need inspection.

Coverage

We stock control arms across the BMW range — 1 Series, 3 Series, 5 Series, X5, X7, Z4 and M variants — in genuine and OEM specification from suppliers including Lemförder and TRW. Each component is matched to chassis code and production date rather than model year alone.

Frequently Asked Questions

    • Genuine Parts: These are the exact components installed at the factory, arriving in the original vehicle manufacturer’s branded packaging (e.g., Porsche or BMW).
    • OEM Parts: These are produced by the same manufacturers that supply the car brands (e.g., Bosch, Brembo, Lemförder) but are sold in the supplier’s own packaging, often at a more competitive price.
    • Aftermarket Parts: These are third-party components designed to meet or exceed original specifications.
