Is this for the Left (Driver) or Right (Passenger) side?
This specific engine mount is highly side-specific due to its mounting geometry and clearance for the steering rack. Part number 22117581617 is engineered exclusively for the Front Left side. On Left-Hand Drive (LHD) vehicles, this corresponds to the Driver's side. (If you need the Right side, you must order part number 22117581618).
Will this fit my M340i, M440i, or M240i?
No! This is a critical engineering distinction. These specific engine mounts are engineered exclusively for the 2.0L 4-Cylinder (B46/B48) engines. If your BMW is a 6-cylinder "M-Performance" model equipped with the 3.0L B58 engine, this mount will absolutely not align with your engine brackets.
Can I replace just the left side?
While physically possible, it is highly recommended to replace your engine mounts in pairs. Because both mounts support the exact same engine weight and counteract the same rotational torque, they degrade at the identical rate. If your left mount has collapsed, your right mount has absorbed all the extra stress and is undoubtedly on the verge of failing as well.
How do I know if this mount is bad?
The two most common visual and physical symptoms of a failed G-Chassis engine mount are severe vibrations transferring into the steering wheel while sitting at a stoplight (which mysteriously vanish when you accelerate), and visible trails of dark, dried hydraulic fluid leaking down the subframe directly beneath the rubber boot.
