Are the left and right rear air springs the exact same part?
Yes. BMW engineered the F07 rear self-leveling suspension to be non-directional. This means the air spring used on the Left (Driver Side) is identical in shape and fitment to the air spring used on the Right (Passenger Side). This set includes two identical units to properly service your entire rear axle.
Should I replace both rear air springs at the same time?
Absolutely. If one side has developed a leak, the rubber bladder on the opposite side has endured the exact same mileage, road conditions, and thermal cycling. It is statistically right at the end of its lifespan. Replacing both sides simultaneously ensures your vehicle stays perfectly level and prevents you from paying for duplicate labor in the near future.
Do I need to replace my air suspension compressor too?
Not necessarily. If you replace your leaking air springs immediately upon noticing the vehicle sagging, your compressor is likely still in good health. However, if you have been driving with a sagging rear end for weeks and the compressor has been running non-stop to compensate, the pump has likely overheated and damaged its internal piston ring, requiring replacement.
Will these fit the standard 5 Series Sedan (F10)?
No. The standard 5 Series Sedan (F10) utilizes traditional steel coil springs in the rear. These pneumatic air springs are engineered strictly for the Gran Turismo (F07) and Touring Wagon (F11) models, which feature the specialized self-leveling rear air suspension architecture.
