Why OEM
The M5/M8 front braking system employs a 395mm cross-drilled floating composite rotor — a two-piece aluminium hat and cast iron ring construction that reduces unsprung mass by approximately 30% versus a conventional solid-cast disc, directly improving steering feel, chassis response, and sustained braking performance. SHW is the BMW OEM supplier for this assembly; the unit supplied here is produced to the identical specification as the factory-installed disc. Aftermarket alternatives frequently present dimensional deviations in the floating contact points between hat and ring, introducing thermal distortion and vibration under sustained high-temperature braking. This factory-specification right rotor ensures correct floating motion, hat parallelism, and thermal expansion characteristics matched to the M5/M8 front caliper geometry.
Installation Note
Replace front rotors as an axle pair — never single side. Use new rotor retention bolt — cannot be reused. Torque to BMW specification. Bed new rotors per BMW M procedure before full-load braking. Inspect caliper slides and pad condition before installation.
