Does this compressor come pre-filled with oil?
Most OEM replacement compressors are shipped with a baseline amount of shipping oil to protect the internals during transit, but you must not assume it is the correct final amount. Your certified A/C technician must completely drain the shipping fluid, measure it, and refill the compressor with the exact amount and viscosity of PAG 46 oil required by the BMW service manual.
Should I replace anything else while doing this job?
Yes. Whenever an A/C compressor is replaced, it is an industry-standard requirement (and strictly necessary for warranty validity) to also replace the Receiver Drier / Accumulator. The drier contains a desiccant bag that absorbs moisture; once the system is opened to the atmosphere during the repair, the old drier is instantly ruined. You should also strictly replace the rubber O-rings on the suction and discharge lines.
Does this fit the newer N55 engine (single turbo)?
No. This specific compressor (64529205096) is specifically engineered for the twin-turbo N54 applications found in the early X6 and the 2011–2012 740i models. When BMW transitioned these chassis to the N55 engine, the accessory drive routing and compressor mounting configurations frequently changed.
