Does this fit the 3.0L Td6 Diesel or 2.0L 4-Cylinder engines?
Absolutely not. This specific water pump (LR097165) is engineered exclusively for the Gasoline (Petrol) 3.0L Supercharged V6 and 5.0L V8 engines. The diesel variants and the smaller 4-cylinder Ingenium engines utilize entirely different water pump architectures.
Should I replace anything else while the mechanic is in there?
Yes. This is the most critical advice you will receive regarding these engines. The 3.0L SC and 5.0L engines are infamous for their two-piece plastic coolant crossover pipes (often called Y-pipes) located under the supercharger and intake manifold. These plastic pipes become brittle and shatter, causing catastrophic engine failure. Because the supercharger often needs to be removed to properly access the water pump and cooling tract, it is highly recommended to replace the plastic crossover pipes, the thermostat, and the oil cooler tube (LR028136) at the exact same time to save thousands on duplicate labor.
Why are there so many superseded part numbers for this pump?
You have simply stumbled upon Jaguar Land Rover's (JLR) continuous improvement cycle. Over the past decade, JLR has updated the internal bearing and seal design of this water pump over half a dozen times to combat premature leaking. LR097165 (and its latest iterations) represent the newest, most robust, and up-to-date factory revision available.
Do I need to apply liquid gasket (RTV) when installing this?
No. This water pump features a precision-machined mating surface and includes a brand-new, multi-layer metal gasket with a raised elastomer sealing bead. Applying messy liquid silicone gasket makers will actually compromise the seal and cause immediate leaks. All mounting bolts must be torqued to the strict factory specifications.
