Why do I have to replace the entire pan just to change the filter?
To save weight and ensure a perfect, leak-free seal, Mercedes-Benz designed the 9G-Tronic transmission filter to be permanently molded into the composite plastic oil pan. They cannot be separated. When it is time for a transmission service, you simply drop and discard the entire old pan assembly and bolt on this brand-new unit.
Does this fit the older 7-speed transmission?
No. This specific transmission pan (A7252703707) is engineered exclusively for the newer 9-speed (9G-Tronic / 725.0) automatic transmission. If your older Mercedes is equipped with the 7G-Tronic (722.9) transmission, it utilizes a completely different metal pan and a separate snap-in filter.
What type of transmission fluid should I use with this pan?
The standard 9G-Tronic transmission requires a highly specific, ultra-low viscosity fluid that meets the strict Mercedes-Benz 236.17 specification (often golden/yellow in color). Do not use older blue (236.15) or red (236.14) ATF, as it will instantly damage the complex internal valving of the 9-speed gearbox. (Note: Certain high-performance AMG Speedshift MCT transmissions may have unique fluid requirements; always verify your owner's manual).
Do I need to replace the mounting bolts?
Yes! The 9G-Tronic transmission pan utilizes specialized, lightweight aluminum mounting bolts. These are "torque-to-yield" stretch bolts designed for one-time use only. If you reuse your old bolts, they will either snap inside the transmission housing during installation or back out over time, causing massive fluid leaks.
