Mercedes SLK Parts | Genuine OEM — R170, R171, R172

OEM Mercedes-Benz SLK Parts

The SLK was Mercedes' compact roadster and the car that popularised the folding hardtop. Our catalogue covers the R170 (1996–2004), R171 (2004–2011) and R172 (2011–2016), including the SLK 55 AMG, before the model was renamed SLC for its final years.

Every part is matched to chassis code, engine code and production date. These cars have a distinct ownership pattern — low annual mileage, long periods standing, and a roof mechanism that becomes a service item in its own right. See SLC parts → for 2016-onward cars. Send us your VIN and we will confirm before you order.

Mercedes-Benz SLK Maintenance Parts

SLK maintenance is light on distance but heavy on time-based items. Cars that cover few kilometres still need fluid and brake servicing on the calendar interval.

Filters and service consumables. Service intervals on a low-mileage car are governed by time rather than distance. An SLK covering 3,000 km a year still needs its annual oil and filter service — oil degrades by oxidation and moisture contamination, and short journeys from cold are the harshest duty cycle there is. Order the complete service kit: the oil filter housing O-ring and sump plug crush washer are single-use. Air filters → · Oil filters → · Service kits →

Brakes. Standard, AMG Line and SLK 55 AMG cars take different disc diameters and pad compounds. The wear sensor is single-use. On a car that stands for long periods, surface corrosion clears with use, but pitting under a pad parked against a wet disc does not — inspect rather than assume the discs are serviceable. Cooling. M271, M272 and M276 engines seep from thermostat housings and plastic pipework long before any temperature warning — a sweet smell and a slowly falling expansion tank are the first evidence. On older generations, cooling plastics should be treated as consumable rather than lifetime parts, particularly in Gulf heat. Coolant parts → · Radiators →

About Mercedes-Benz SLK Parts

Parts for the SLK divide by generation before anything else. Identifying the chassis code — R170, R171 and R172 — is the first step in ordering correctly, and facelift revisions within a generation matter as much as the generation change itself.

R170 (1996–2004) — The original Vario-roof car. Now genuinely old, with parts supply depending substantially on independent channels. Roof hydraulics, the pump and its seals, cooling components and suspension bushings are the recurring items, and corrosion is a real consideration on cars from wetter climates.

R171 (2004–2011) — M271 four-cylinder and M272 V6 engines, plus the SLK 55 AMG. The generation with the largest active parc today. Roof hydraulic cylinders and their seals, the M272 balance shaft concern on early engines, front control arm bushings and thermostat housings dominate the workload.

R172 (2011–2016) — M271 EVO and M276 engines, the 7G-Tronic, and MAGIC SKY CONTROL glass roof offered as an option. Renamed SLC in 2016 following a facelift, so late R172 and SLC share extensively.

The Vario-roof. Worth treating as its own system on this model. It uses a hydraulic pump, cylinders, position sensors and microswitches, and it is the single most common source of non-engine faults on these cars. A roof that refuses to cycle is far more often a failed microswitch, a position sensor, a leaking hydraulic cylinder, or simply low battery voltage than a failed pump — diagnose before replacing anything expensive. Hydraulic cylinder seals fail with age rather than use, and Gulf heat and UV are hard on roof seals and hydraulics regardless of mileage. Boot-mounted cylinders that leak will stain the boot lining, which is often the first visible sign.

Suspension and steering. Front control arm bushings are the defining wear item, with the familiar progression: steering shimmy under braking, then a knock over expansion joints, then inner-edge tyre wear misdiagnosed as alignment. Mercedes supplies most arms complete with bushing and ball joint pressed in. Because these cars cover low annual mileage, bushings and dampers age on a calendar basis — a 40,000 km SLK that is eighteen years old needs the same scrutiny as a higher-mileage car. Control arms → · Shocks & springs →

Electrical and sensors. Battery condition matters more on this car than on most. A stored roadster with a degraded battery will throw a multi-module fault cascade and refuse to operate the roof, and the faults clear entirely once voltage is restored. Confirm battery and charging health before condemning a module, and use a conditioner if the car is stored. Beyond that, most module failures are sensor, earth or connector faults — including roof position sensors and microswitches. Electrical parts → · Oxygen sensors →

Genuine Mercedes-Benz SLK Accessories

We supply genuine and OEM trim, body and lighting components for the SLK. Roof seals, latches and weather strips are worth treating as maintenance items on a car exposed to Gulf sun. Some R170 items are now superseded — send your VIN and we will tell you honestly what is obtainable. Browse body parts → or contact our team.

FAQ

My roof will not cycle — what should I check first? Battery voltage, then the microswitches and position sensors, then the hydraulic cylinders for leaks. A failed pump is far less common than any of those, and replacing one before diagnosing the cheap causes is a frequent and expensive mistake.

There is fluid staining in my boot. Typically a leaking roof hydraulic cylinder. Address it before the fluid loss stops the roof cycling altogether.

Is the SLK the same as the SLC? The R172 SLK became the SLC in 2016 via a facelift rather than a new platform, so late SLK and SLC share extensively.

My car covers very few kilometres — can I skip services? No. Service annually regardless of distance, and check bushings, dampers and cooling hoses on a calendar basis.

How quickly will my order ship? In-stock orders dispatch from our UAE or USA warehouse with full tracking.

Frequently Asked Questions

    • Genuine Parts: These are the exact components installed at the factory, arriving in the original vehicle manufacturer’s branded packaging (e.g., Porsche or BMW).
    • OEM Parts: These are produced by the same manufacturers that supply the car brands (e.g., Bosch, Brembo, Lemförder) but are sold in the supplier’s own packaging, often at a more competitive price.
    • Aftermarket Parts: These are third-party components designed to meet or exceed original specifications.
